Built by Paul Irvin, this a five octave instrument with a range FF to f3.  it is strung with brass wire, wound strings in he very deep bass.  It is an unfretted instrument (sometimes called bundfrei).  Each note has its own pair of strings so each note is completely independent of whatever else is being played. This permits more freedom in tuning since any temperament can be chosen at any time merely by adjusting the tuning pins.

The instrument is 44 inches wide, 13 inches deep, and is 44 inches tall (on the separate stand).

This instrument has been used for performances.
